Sunrise And Sunset Drone Photography Of Tennessee Properties

Sunset Percy Priest Lake Nashville TN

Capturing beautiful sunset and sunrise drone images of Tennessee properties is a treat for Nashville Drone Co, because it gives us the chance to explore places that many people do not even know exist. Rolling hills, quiet pastures, historic barns and long gravel drives all look their best in the soft light at the edges of the day, and a drone camera can show them in a way that no ground level photo can.

This article walks through a recent shoot at Liefke Estates and Iron Hoof Stables in Thompson Station, Tennessee, and shares what we have learned about filming sunrises and sunsets on Tennessee properties. It also covers how we plan these shoots, the rules that apply when flying near twilight, and what property owners can gain from aerial images made in beautiful light.

A Marketing Video For Liefke Estates And Iron Hoof Stables

This week, Nashville Drone Co had the opportunity to film a marketing video for Liefke Estates and Iron Hoof Stables in Thompson Station, Tennessee. Complete with cinematic, epic views, the estate is nestled in the rolling hills of Thompson Station, not far from Franklin and Spring Hill. Liefke Estates is home to a luxury Airbnb, and Iron Hoof Stables offers horseback trail riding and riding lessons.

A property like this has a lot to communicate. Guests who are considering a stay want to see the setting, the privacy and the views. Riders and families who are looking for lessons or trail rides want to understand the land they will be riding across and the feel of the place. A marketing video that moves across the hills, the pastures and the buildings answers those questions in a few seconds, and it does it with emotion that a written description cannot match.

That is the work we do for hospitality businesses, equestrian operations and rural estates across Middle Tennessee. Our goal is to turn the best qualities of a property into images and video that people want to share and book.

Two Trips, Two Kinds Of Light

We made two trips to Liefke Estates to capture drone images, one during the sunset twilight hour and one at morning sunrise. Shooting at both ends of the day gives a property two very different personalities, and it gives the client more options when the edit comes together.

While the sunset was certainly breathtaking to view, our drone camera preferred the lighting created by the sunrise over the property. The layer of fog that settled on the hills was magnificent as the sun began to rise, and the lens flare from the morning sun offered a nice touch. Fog adds depth and mood, because it separates one ridge from the next and softens the background into layers of color. It is the kind of effect that is hard to plan and impossible to repeat on demand, which is why we make a point of being there when it happens. Once the sun peeked over the hills, we found ourselves in pretty intense summer sun. Light that is lovely at 6 a.m. becomes harsh quickly, with hard shadows and bright highlights that flatten the landscape. Thankfully, we found shady areas that allowed us to capture a few more drone images. Knowing when to keep shooting and when to look for a different angle is part of the craft.

Why Sunrise And Sunset Light Works For Property Marketing

Light is the most important ingredient in an aerial photograph. At midday, the sun is high and the light is flat and direct, which strips the texture out of fields, trees and rooflines. Near sunrise and sunset, the sun is low, and everything changes. Shadows stretch across the ground, and they reveal the shape of the hills. Colors warm up, greens look richer, and metal roofs and wood siding glow. The sky itself becomes part of the composition. This matters for several kinds of properties.

Vacation rentals and Airbnb properties

Guests book an experience, and warm, cinematic images communicate comfort and escape.

Equestrian properties and stables

Pastures, barns, riding rings and trails look inviting at golden hour, and the light flatters both the land and the buildings.

Farms and estates

A property that is being marketed for sale or for events benefits from images that show scale and setting at their best.

Event Venues

Weddings and gatherings are often planned around the way a place looks in the evening light, and a sunset video shows exactly that.

Land and development sites

Even a raw parcel shows well when the low sun brings out the contours of the land.

Be Patient, Nimble And Attentive

One thing we have learned about drone filming sunsets and sunrises on Tennessee properties is to be patient, nimble and attentive. Beautiful images reveal themselves quickly, and a pilot can miss the perfect shot in the blink of an eye. The best light may last only a few minutes. A fog bank can burn off, a cloud can drift in front of the sun, or the color can peak just as a battery runs low.

For that reason, at Nashville Drone Co we shoot fast, shoot plenty and explore everything we can find with our drone. We fly different heights, try different headings, move toward the sun and away from it, and look for the angle nobody has used before. A property is rarely at its best from a single position. A shot from low over a pasture, a slow orbit around a barn, and a high pull back that shows the whole estate all tell different parts of the story.

How We Plan A Sunrise Or Sunset Shoot

Good light looks effortless, but it comes from preparation. Before a golden hour shoot, we do several things.

We scout the property

Knowing the layout, the obstacles and the best vantage points means we are not wasting precious minutes searching when the light is ideal.

We study the sun

We check exactly where it will rise or set relative to the property, so we know which direction to face and which features will catch the light.

We watch the weather

Clouds, humidity and temperature all change the look of the sky. Fog is a bonus when it appears, but it has to be safe to fly in.

We prepare equipment

Fresh batteries, clean lenses and the right camera settings are essential, because there is no time to troubleshoot when the light is changing.

We plan for more than one visit

Weather does not always cooperate, and different light on a different day can give a client a stronger result. That is why we made two trips for the Liefke Estates shoot.

We also shoot with the edit in mind. Capturing high resolution stills along with cinematic video gives clients material for websites, listings, social media, brochures and advertising. Standard delivery is five days, with 24 to 48 hour rush service available, and we provide vertical cuts for Instagram Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts at no additional charge.

Flying Near Sunrise And Sunset, The Rules

Shooting at the edges of the day comes with specific FAA rules. Every Nashville Drone Co flight is operated by an FAA Part 107 certified pilot. Under 14 CFR 107.29, operations during civil twilight, the period just before sunrise and just after sunset, require anti-collision lighting that is visible for at least three statute miles. The aircraft must remain within visual line of sight, and the general altitude limit of 400 feet above ground level in 107.51 still applies.

Weather rules matter too. Part 107 sets minimum visibility and cloud clearance requirements, so a foggy morning is only a good morning to fly if the conditions meet those limits. We check conditions carefully and are willing to wait, reschedule or adjust the plan. We also check airspace before each flight, carry liability insurance, and brief property owners before we launch. Safety always comes first, no matter how good the light looks.

Tennessee's Landscape Offers Endless Variety

Tennessee's landscape offers incredible variety, from rolling hills and hidden trails to open pastures and dramatic skies. Each shoot is a new adventure, and no two sunrises or sunsets are ever the same. A property that looks good in the late summer haze can look entirely different on a crisp October morning or beneath a winter sky. That is one reason many of our clients come back for a second season of images.

At Nashville Drone Co, we take pride in capturing these fleeting moments and turning them into lasting visual stories for our clients. Our service area covers Nashville, Franklin, Brentwood, Nolensville, Spring Hill, Columbia, Lebanon, Mt. Juliet, Murfreesboro, College Grove, Hendersonville, Smyrna, Leiper's Fork, Dickson and Kingston Springs, along with the countryside between them.
